Collins Wins State Senate Primary For 1st Suffolk District

Incumbent Nick Collins, who has represented the district since 2018, was re-elected Tuesday.

BOSTON, MA — Incumbent Nick Collins has won the Democratic primary for state senator in the 1st Suffolk District.

The Associated Press called the race for Collins with 97 percent of the district reporting results. Collins received 16,156 votes to challenger Samuel Pierce's 5,711.

Collins, of Boston, has represented the district since winning a special election to replace Sen. Linda Dorcena Forry in 2018. Collins previously served four terms as a state representative in the 4th Suffolk District. Pierce, also a Boston resident, has worked on various Democratic campaigns, including those of U.S. Reps. Seth Moulton and Ayanna Pressley and At-Large City Councilor Julia Mejia.

There is no Republican candidate for state senate in the 1st Suffolk District, meaning Collins has effectively won re-election.

  • Nick Collins (i) - 16,156 votes, 73.9 percent
  • Samuel Pierce - 5,711 votes, 26.1 percent
