'A Twisted Form of Loyalty': Whitey Bulger's Girlfriend Lands More Prison Time

Boston, MA - Already imprisoned for aiding and abetting the notorious Boston mob boss, Catherine Greig received an additional prison sentence Thursday of 21 months.
Girlfriend to James "Whitey" Bulger, Greig's latest charges are for refusing to assist the court, charges of criminal contempt to which she previously pleaded guilty.
Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV called Greig's decision to stand by Bulger "a twisted form of loyalty," noting it's tough to find "a less worthy object of affection."

"History will remember Bulger as a monster," he said.
According to the charges, from Dec. 9, 2014 through Sept. 22, 2015, Greig refused to testify before a federal grand jury regarding an investigation into whether other individuals assisted boyfriend Bulger while he was a fugitive from 1995 through 2011.

She's already serving eight years for identity fraud and for helping conceal Bulger's whereabouts. The two were on the run together before being captured in Santa Monica, Calif.
On the latest charges, prosecutors called for an additional three years for Greig's sentence, while her lawyer argued for six months.
Bulger himself is serving a lifetime prison sentence, convicted for playing a role in 11 murderers.
