Cardinal Spellman Inducts New National Honor Society Members

To be selected for this honor, students in grades 10-11 must display the attributes of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

From Cardinal Spellman HS: On Tuesday, April 4, 2017, Cardinal Spellman High School inducted 39 new members to the Edmund Campion Chapter of the National Honor Society. In order to be selected for this honor, students in grades 10-11 must display the attributes of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. In order to be considered for the National Honor Society, Cardinal Spellman requires all members to have a minimum of a 3.6 GPA; complete 10 hours of service prior to acceptance and 20 hours of service once inducted; and students must display strong character and leadership experience in the school community.

The ceremony began with opening remarks from Principal Paul Kelly, and was then passed the evening on to the National Honor Society student officers to lead the candlelight ceremony and present the inductees. The Spellman NHS officers are Elizabeth Child, President; Michael Cahill, Vice President; Ethan Child, Secretary; Emily O'Neill, Treasurer; Alyssa Grzybinkski, Historian; and Alfred Grzybinski, Junior Representative.

Special awards were presented by Spellman's NHS advisors, Mrs. Jeanne Ananian and Ms. Joan Querzoli. The Scholarship Award was given to Anastasia Pumphrey (Rockland), for demonstrating "a true love for learning and a willingness to share it with others." The Service Award was presented to Carlie Brainard (Abington), for her concern for the wellbeing of others and demonstrating humility toward their benefit. The Leadership Award was awarded to Jonathan Dudek (Weymouth), for providing vision, accepting challenges, and encouraging and empowering others. Josue Medor (Brockton) was presented with the Character Award for being recognized as someone who is "consistently trustworthy, respectful, fair, responsible, and caring."
