Brookline To Close Several Roads During Boston Marathon

Affected roads will close at 8 a.m. on the day of the race and are expected to reopen around 6:30 p.m.

BROOKLINE, MA — Brookline Town Administrator Mel Kleckner said Monday that several roads will be closed on Monday, Oct. 11 to accommodate the Boston Marathon.

Affected roads will close at 8 a.m. on the day of the race and are expected to reopen around 6:30 p.m. Residents are asked to plan ahead and seek alternate routes.

"We are thrilled to once again welcome runners from around the nation and world to the streets of Brookline for the Boston Marathon," said Kleckner in a statement. "The safety of spectators and runners is our top priority, and we will have numerous safety officials and volunteers to ensure this. Whether you are cheering on runners or trying to get around town, we ask residents to be mindful of street closures and plan accordingly on the day of the race."

The day before the race, Beacon Street will become a tow zone starting at 4 p.m. and will be closed to inbound traffic on Marathon Monday. In addition, the following areas will be closed to traffic:

  • Chestnut Hill Ave at Clinton Road and Dean Road
  • Washington Street at Park Street
  • Harvard Street at Longwood Ave, Webster Place and Sewall Ave
  • Saint Paul Street at Longwood Ave and Sewall Ave
  • Sewall Ave at Marshall Street

During the race, pedestrian crossing is only permitted on Beacon Street at Tappan, Webster, and Hawes Streets if it is not a danger or obstruction to runners. Crossing is not permitted from around noon to 2 p.m.
