Brookline Finds Its Next Council On Aging Director
Williams was selected among a pool of numerous applicants.

BROOKLINE, MA — Town Administrator Chas Carey announced Tuesday that Emily Williams has been appointed as the new Council on Aging Director.
Williams was chosen among approximately 40 other candidates to be the successor to Ruthann Dobek, who retired in December after four decades. Prior to her new role, Williams was the Executive Director of the Town of Bridgewater’s Department of Elder Affairs. According to the town, she has held multiple other leadership roles in the field as well.
Williams earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Florida before earning her Master’s in Science in Gerontology from the University of Massachusetts Boston. Carey believes she is the best person for the position moving forward.

“She engaged at a deep and thoughtful level with the many difficult questions the panel asked her. She had great familiarity with best practices, emerging trends, and budgeting issues that face municipal senior services across Massachusetts,” Carey said.
Williams was chosen by a seven-member group of town leaders from a variety of town organizations.
