BROOKLINE, MA — The fire department celebrated the retirement of Joe Mandra recently after two decades of service.

Mandra joined the department in February of 2006, first assigned to Group 4 of Station 5 on Lowell Street. He became a certified EMT in 2009 in order to contribute even further to the life-saving efforts of his job. The father of two was known for dedicating the majority of his time to his work, often working 24-hour shifts with his fellow Station 5 firefighters.

“Those who worked with Joe remarked that he was a really good firefighter with a great sense of humor around the fire station,” the department said in a statement.
