Brookline Police Investigate Early-Morning Car Break-In

Police launched a K9 search after a resident said she saw a man in her car around 1:30 a.m. Monday.

BROOKLINE, MA — Brookline police detectives are investigating a vehicle break-in after a resident said she found a man seated inside her car early Monday morning, police said this week.

A K9 unit arrived within minutes around 1:30 a.m. on Rawson Road, Brookline police Sergeant Robert Disario told Patch. Though a search ultimately didn’t find the man, Disario said detectives were continuing with an investigation as of Tuesday morning that “may yield positive results.”

Disario said a resident confronted the man in her car after she reported seeing the dome light of her car illuminated. Disario said the man fled down Rawson Road toward Colbourne Crescent.

The man was described as white, standing approximately 6-feet tall and wearing a light-colored sweatshirt and a black backpack, according to Disario.

Disario said police deployed Brookline K9 Officer Kemba to look for the man.

Disario said investigators are working with neighbors in the area around Rawson Road in their ongoing investigation.

In the meantime, Disario reminded residents to secure their vehicles and avoid leaving anything of value in view in their cars.

“Oftentimes, subjects will travel from driveway to driveway trying door handles hoping to fine one unlocked,” Disario said. “Usually, if the car door is locked, they'll move along to the next driveway.”

Often, Disario said, thieves look for valuable items that they can easily carry.

The car in this case was unlocked. The resident reported nothing missing from her car after the incident, though, according to Disario.
