Brookline Charged Up About Latest State Grant
The town is emphasizing electric vehicles for long-term environmental benefits.
BROOKLINE, MA — The town’s Department of Public Works has received a grant for the purpose of implementing electric vehicle charging stations.
Brookline is one of 15 municipalities to receive funding from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center’s On-Street Electric Vehicle Charging Solutions Grant Program. According to the Brookline DPW, the Mass CEC will provide the design, procurement, equipment, and installation of EV charging stations in three different locations in town. Each site is slated to have between four and ten charging ports. The project is estimated to cost approximately $500,000, with all costs to be covered by the grant.
Director of Sustainability and Natural Resources Alexandra Vecchio expressed her belief that electric vehicles will play a significant role in the town's future, and that they help with combatting climate change and greenhouse gas emissions.
