Family Suing State Police After Member Killed By Police Cruiser In Brookline: Report
Margie Mendez died from severe injuries suffered from being hit by a vehicle.

BROOKLINE, MA — The family of a resident who died after being hit by a state trooper’s vehicle while crossing Boylston Street in January has sued the Massachusetts State Police, according to a report from Brookline News.
Margie Mendez, 86, died on April 5 from her injuries after months of hospitalization. The driver of the vehicle, Trooper Kyle Santoro, was found to be not at fault after an investigation by the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office. However, the lawsuit filed by Mendez’s family claims Santoro “negligently failed to exercise due care” after failing to keep a “proper lookout” when making a right turn from Hammond Street onto the westbound side of Boylston Street. Santoro testified that when he made a right turn with a green light, Mendez simultaneously stepped off the curb in front of his cruiser. He also said he immediately exited his vehicle to render aid to her.
