Tom Brady The Dad: Brookline Mom Highlights Brady's Other Job
Tova Katz's son played youth sports with Tom Brady's son and then wrote a blog post about what she learned about him — as a dad and a human.
BROOKLINE, MA — If you've ever hoped to bump into Patriots quarterback Tom Brady around town in the hopes that you might get some insight into what he's like off the field, you're not alone. A recent blog post from a Brookline neighbor gives a peek of what Brady is like when he was simply being a dad — even as most fans are wondering if he'll be playing for in New England next season.
Tova Katz, whose son played youth sports with his, took to Medium to write what she learned about Brady in an open letter after sharing time watching their children's outdoor hockey practices at Larz Anderson rink throughout the years, once just hours before the Patriots headed to Super Bowl LI.
"Dear Tom," it started off.

"You are so many things, Tom: star athlete, husband, dad, son and brother, record holder, six-time Super Bowl champion, four-time Super Bowl MVP, beloved son of New England," she said. "But possibly what’s most impressive is that you are simply a mensch: a decent, kind human being, a leader and role model for our children."
Katz said she marveled at how kind he was to kids who came up to him at practice or other events.

"After all the championships, come-from-behind wins, records, and rings, it might seem surprising that anyone would think your most precious legacy is your simple civility," she said. "But in this day and age, celebrity is cheap and civility is sparse."
Brady and his wife Gisele Bündchen placed their Brookline home on the market last year and then were reported to have moved out of town. Katz said even if Brady signs with another team, she will always remember him as a neighbor and a fellow Brookline parent watching the kids at Larz Anderson rink discover the joy of sports.
"A joy that you, Tom, instill in so many of us grateful fans," she said. "On behalf of the parents of New England, from the bottom of so many hearts: Thank you.”
