BROOKLINE, MA — Sometimes just watching people run 26.2 miles can make a person hungry. And if it's raining like last year, sometimes watching people run in the rain makes a person want to take cover where there's food. Brookline is the place to be when it comes to helping you take care of both on Marathon Monday. Here are a dozen spots along the route that are worth checking out.

Washington Square

Grassona's Italian Kitchen
This family-friendly Italian comfort food joint has a pretty sweet patio and plenty of space inside in case it's raining, so make a point of stopping by this Washington Square standout, which opens early at 10 a.m. The Brookline restaurant will be serving a special marathon brunch until 4 p.m. and then dinner from 5-10 with drinks all day. 1704 Beacon St., Brookline; 617-396-8752, www.grassonasitalian,com

Burro Bar normally opens at 5 p.m. but on Marathon Monday, this spot couldn't resist opening from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. That means if you can score a coveted spot on their patio you can watch the marathon with margarita in hand — if it's not raining out there. They're firing up the grill for Street Style Mexican Corn, and Chorizo sausages along with the regular items. 1665 Beacon St, Brookline: 617-277-0427 burrobarbrookline.com

The Publick House
This spot is opening before noon to offer its selection of craft beer rarities from Maine Beer Co., Trillium, Pretty Things, and Allagash. They've also got sriracha Buffalo wings, and a dynamite five-cheese mac ‘n’ cheese. 1648 Beacon St., Brookline; 617-277-2880 or thepublickhousebeerbar.com.
