📰 News we're reading
• In Cambridge, coyotes are just another neighbor (bostonglobe.com) — Coyotes are increasingly visible in Cambridge’s parks, playgrounds, and even busy squares, prompting the city’s Animal Commission to emphasize coexistence and pet safety rather than removal. Local residents describe frequent sightings around Danehy Park, Fresh Pond, and North Cambridge, while officials promote “coyote awareness” and simple precautions so people and pets can safely share the city with these wild neighbors.

• A legendary graphic novelist gets the (bio)graphic novel treatment (forward.com) — Cambridge’s own comics scene quietly shapes a major new biography of graphic-novel pioneer Will Eisner, created by longtime local collaborators Steve Weiner and Dan Mazur. Their years in Cambridge’s comics circles inform a warm, accessible “comics biography” that traces Eisner’s journey from Depression-era Brooklyn to coining the very term “graphic novel.”

• Astronomers ring in the new year with a stunning galaxy collision (sciencedaily.com) — Cambridge plays a behind-the-scenes role in a striking new space image, with the Chandra X-ray Center at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory running mission science from the city. Astronomers used Chandra and optical telescopes to reveal that the so-called Champagne Cluster is actually two galaxy clusters colliding, offering fresh clues about hot gas, dark matter, and how massive cosmic structures evolve.
