Cambridge Named One of 49 Coolest Neighborhoods In The World

27,000 city-dwellers and local experts rank the best places for food, fun, and community, with one Cambridge neighborhood making the list.

CAMBRIDGE, MA — After a year of being stuck inside, people are itching to get out and venture into new places, exploring more and more parts of their neighborhood. A new poll from Time Out ranked the 49 best places around the world for food, fun, culture, and community, and Cambridge just so happens to have a spot.

While Central Square in Cambridge has been home to a booming nightlife, it is also nestled between Harvard University and MIT, making it a hub for students, creatives, thrill-seekers, and townies.

Coming in at Number 39 on Time Out's list of top coolest neighborhoods, Central Square has everything you need in one small strip along Massachusetts Avenue, everything from music venues, to craft breweries, to cozy bookstores.

Being in the socially conscious city it is, Central Square also has many sustainably-minded businesses that throw in many vintage stores, an open-air farmer's market and Daily Table: a nonprofit community grocery store.

Stumble down Central Square and you might find a colorful little alleyway with the nickname of "Graffiti Alley." The actual name of the alley is Richard B. 'Rico' Modica Way. Modica was a prominent lawyer in the community, having helped many Hispanic and Portuguese residents with taxes.

Number 1 on Time Out's list is Nørrebro, Copenhagen - a lakeside spot filled with a mix of modern and historical architecture, and busting with local flavors from food and drink joints.

Nørrebro offers Car-Free Sunday, swapping traffic on Nørrebrogade for live music and flea market, and new art exhibits that bring color throughout the neighborhood.

Andersonville, Chicago follows as number 2, citing its LGBTQ+ nightlife and the bars and restaurants that line the streets.

Jongno 3-ga, Seoul falls at number 3, with Time Out calling it the heart and soul of Seoul.
