Cambridge Opens Cooling Center For Residents
In full swing of a heat wave, the City of Cambridge is providing opportunities for residents to cool off.
CAMBRIDGE, MA — The City of Cambridge is offering opportunities for residents to beat the extreme heat this week.
When trying to escape heat waves, local movie theaters and malls such as Cambridgeside are great places to start, but sometimes spending money isn't always the best option.
On Monday, June 28, the City of Cambridge will open a cooling center in the Field House at the War Memorial Recreation Center located at 1640 Cambridge Street. It will be open from 12-6 p.m. on Monday and from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Cambridge residents looking to utilize the cooling center can enter the facility via the walkway between the Cambridge Rindge and Latin School's Arts building and the Main Library (door 20).
The cooling center is open to residents of all ages.

Gold Star Pool is also open to residents Monday through Friday from 3-7 p.m. and weekends and holidays from 11 a.m.- 7 p.m.
The Cambridge Citywide Senior Center located at 806 Massachusetts Avenue in Central Square, will also be open to seniors from 8:30 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Monday and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Police are also urging people to call the FirstStep Street Outreach team at 617-592-6895 if they feel concerned about people who may be residing outdoors, or 911 if there appears to be a medical emergency in the drastic heat.
Police urge people to be aware of signs of heat stroke: hot, red, dry, or moist skin; a rapid and strong pulse; and possible unconsciousness.
If someone is showing signs of heat stroke, police say call 911 immediately.
