Firefighters Pull SUV Out Of Charles River In Cambridge

The driver wasn't in the car, according to officials.

CAMBRIDGE, MA — Firefighters pulled an SUV from the Charles River along Memorial Drive halfway between Ash Street and the North Harvard Street Bridge in Cambridge, but didn't find anyone inside, this morning, according to fire officials.

Just before 5 a.m. Tuesday, someone called to report a SUV was in the Charles River. Photos show it appears to have jumped the curb and driven right past a bench and into the water, submerging its front tires.

Local and state police, EMS and the fire department responded. The car was empty when they arrived and no driver or passengers were found nearby according to police. A diver suited up to check the water to make sure no one was under the water, but they didn't find anyone, according to fire officials.

At approximately 4:50, ECC received a report of a vehicle in the Charles River at Memorial Drive near Ash Street.

State police will be following up with the registered owner, according to Cambridge Police.
