Harvard Loses Almost $2 Billion in Endowment Value: Report
The Harvard Crimson reported this is the first year of losses since the Recession's end.
CAMBRIDGE, MA — Harvard University endowment lost nearly $2 billion in value for fiscal 2017, The Harvard Crimson reported Thursday.
According to the student paper, the losses by Harvard Management Company constitute its worst returns since the peak of the financial crisis, "the latest in a string of underwhelming investment results for the world’s largest university endowment."
It brings the Harvard endowment down to $35.7 billion in total value, compared with $37.6 billion value at the end of FY2015.

Harvard Management's interim CEO called the results "disappointing," and pointed to the "low interest rate environment and market volatility," as well as the endowment's internal performance.
