Harvard Shelter-In-Place Lifted After Man Apprehended

Police were being asked people to remain inside at Harvard.

CAMBRIDGE, MA — The shelter-in-place at Harvard has been lifted after a man who was reported to be armed was apprehended.

"Harvard Alert: The individual has been apprehended and is in custody. The shelter in place is lifted," the university tweeted.

The school went into a shelter-in-place after a report of a man with a gun near the Smith Campus Center, according to an alert sent out by the university.

Cambridge police said officers were searching for the man in Harvard Square. The man lifted his shirt and showed two men a gun in his waistband following an altercation, according to a police spokesperson.

Police apprehended the man and a female suspect on Mass Ave.
