Murder Suspect Arrested At Ben & Jerry's In Cambridge

Sohan Panjrolia was arrested near Harvard after shooting and killing his father, Mahendra B. Panjrolia, in Philadelphia, police said.

CAMBRIDGE, MA — A man suspected of murdering his father in Pennsylvania was arrested at a Ben & Jerry's ice cream shop in Harvard Square Tuesday, police said. Sohan Panjrolia, 31, was wanted after police said he shot and killed his father, Mahendra B. Panjrolia, in Philadelphia on Saturday and then drove off.

Panjrolia previously attended Harvard University and an initial investigation indicated he might be in the Harvard Square area, police said. Authorities closed streets to traffic and issued a shelter-in-place order as they moved to arrest him. Reports said he was possibly armed.

Philadelphia police said Panjrolia and his 60-year-old father were watching television when the son got a rifle and shot his father in the head. His mother was in the house at the time.

Panjrolia was considered dangerous and police advised residents to use extreme caution if they came across him. Cambridge police released what appeared to be a security camera photo of Panjrolia as officers zeroed in on him. It showed him with a shaved head; a photo released by Philadelphia police showed him with a full head of hair.

Cambridge police said the area was reopened to regular traffic by 1:30 p.m.
