Canton Police said there have been two fatal falls from roofs over the past few days as people have been clearing snow from roofs.
Police said they responded with the Fire Department to Will Drive at about 5 p.m. Sunday after a person went through a skylight and fell 40 feet to the ground. Police said there were two people on the roof ”assessing snow removal operations” when one person walked across a skylight that was covered by snow and fell through the skylight.
The person was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton where he was pronounced dead.
On Wednesday, police and fire responded to Draper Brothers Company on Draper Lane after a worker fell from the roof while clearing snow.
The man was taken via Medflight to a Boston area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
In addition, a female homeowner fell from the roof on Tucker Road on Saturday while she attempted to clear snow. She was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the families of the victims who lost their lives in these tragic accident. As we have been communicating this week, we urge people to use extreme caution while attempting to clear snow and ice from their roofs. We recommend homeowners contact professionals to assist with snow removal and whenever possible to work in pairs of at least two people. These tragic and deadly incidents highlight unprecedented concerns and hidden dangers that have come with the brutal weather conditions we have been experiencing,” said Canton Police.
