Boy Battling Brain Cancer Named Honorary Boston Police Officer

A three-year-old boy battling brain cancer received a special recognition from Boston's men in blue on Wednesday.

A three-year-old boy battling brain cancer received a special recognition from Boston’s men in blue on Tuesday. Declan John Higgins was named an honorary Boston Police Officer.

After completing a long day of cancer treatment at Dana Farber in Boston, Declan received an escort from dozens of officers to the department’s District B-2 headquarters.

Upon arrival, Declan received a king’s welcome. The department presented him with a special citation, officially making him an honorary member of the force.

All of the officers in attendance say it was a privilege to see Declan’s “brave, bright smile.”

“We salute you, Honorary Officer Higgins,” the department said.
