DANVERS, MA – Liberty Tree Mall will be open from 12:01 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Black Friday, Nov. 25, and closed on Thanksgiving.

According to CNN Money, the term "Black Friday" was coined by police officers in Philadelphia. With the crowds of shoppers flooding the city after Thanksgiving to score holiday deals, officers couldn't take the day off. Traffic officers had to work 12-hour shifts, and the mayhem was dubbed "Black Friday."

People have also theorized that Black Friday was named as such because it was the day retailers' accounting books went into the black – the day where stores turned a profit for the year.
