Danvers' Annual Recycling Weekend Kicks Off Saturday

This weekend, the town of Danvers is celebrating Earth Day by offering an annual two day event where residents can recycle a variety of items not collected by curbside pickup.

The Earth Day Recycling Weekend will be held on April 28 & 29, 2012 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Elm Street Parking Lot across from .  This event is co-sponsored with Big Brother Big Sister Foundation, Got Books, XTechnology Global, and JRM.

Residents may bring bagged clothing, shoes, purses, linens, stuffed animals and small toys for Big Brother Big Sister.  XTechnology Global will collect electronics including TVs and computer monitors ($15 each); ACs and dehumidifiers ($5 each); computers ($3 each).  Cell phones, laptops and all other small electronics are free.  Certificates of Destruction are also available ($5 each).  XTechnology Global will donate half the collected monies to the Danvers Community Council.

Got Books will be collecting books, DVDs, CDs, VHS tapes, cassette tapes, audio books and records - no magazines or encyclopedias please.  JRM will shred up to 2 boxes of your confidential papers (there is a $5.00 charge for subsequent boxes).  JRM will donate all money to the Danvers Community Council. 

Metal items (file cabinets, grills, etc.) will be collected for recycling by the Town of Danvers.  JRM will also be collecting rigid plastics.

Thanks to funding from the Sustainable Materials and Recovery Program Grant, Danvers can offer its residents Compost Bins for a discounted price of $30.  Rain Barrels will also be available for purchase by residents at a discounted rate of $30 as a result of the Water Use Mitigation Program.  Residents can purchase these items at the event with a check made out to the Town of Danvers.  No cash accepted. Limited number; first-come, first-served; no pre-orders.  The Danvers Bi-Peds will be volunteering at this event!  We’ll also be handing out brochures on recycling, water conservation, stormwater and responsible landscaping.  If you have questions, please refer to the Public Works page on the Town of Danvers website at www.danvers.govoffice.com or contact Gail Bernard at 978-777-0001 x3014.  Danvers Recycles – together we can make a difference!!!
