Danvers Cancels Santa By The Sea Event

Higher costs along with fewer sponsors and volunteers led to the demise of the popular Pope's Landing holiday event.

In the past, Santa By The Sea has featured pony and wagon rides, a bouncy house, a petting zoo, snacks and other children's activities, leading up to Santa's arrival in Danvers on the harbormaster's boat.

DANVERS, MA — The Danvers Recreation Department canceled its popular Santa By The Seat at Pope's Landing Event, according to a notice on the town's Website. In the past, the event has featured pony and wagon rides, a bouncy house, a petting zoo, snacks and other children's activities, leading up to Santa's arrival in Danvers on the harbormaster's boat.

According to the Salem News, the event was canceled because of a declining number of sponsors and volunteers, as well as increased costs. The recreation department is offering the Danvers downtown holiday festival Dec. 7, from 2 to 5 p.m. in Danvers Square as an alternative to kick off the holiday season.
