Danvers Man Accused Of Assaulting Police Officers

Police were called to a motel after David Purinton, 50, drove drunk and pounded on the door of a room where his ex-girlfriend was staying.

DANVERS, MA — A Danvers man was accused of assaulting two police officers last Friday night after police went to his home to ask him about an incident at a nearby hotel. Police say David Purinton, 50, of 15 Belgian Road in Danvers, drove drunk to the Town Place Suites on Andover Street in Danvers and pounded on the door of a room where his ex-girlfriend was staying. Two officers who went to his home to wait for him to return got into a scuffle with Purinton who had assumed a "fighting stance" when the officers refused his request to leave the property.

Purinton pleaded not guilty Monday to charges of drunken driving, two counts of assault and battery on a police officer and resisting arrest. Purinton was released on personal recognizance and is due back in court on Feb. 19.
