Danvers Man Assaults Three Police Officers

Following a hit-and-run on Elliott Street, three officers were assaulted by a 36-year-old Danvers man.
At 7:53 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, police were made aware of a hit-and-run at the corner of Route 62 and Route 128. The off-duty Wenham firefighter whose car was rear-ended told police he followed the other driver to his address and wrote down his license plate number.
When police went to further investigate at the residence at 8:01 p.m., they placed Jacob Carpenter, 36, of 28 Poplar St., under arrest.

According to Officer Eric Clarizia, Officer Dana Hagan and Officer Scott Frost were assaulted by Carpenter at his residence, and during his booking at the department, Officer Robert Santo was also assaulted.
Carpenter was charged with three counts of assault and battery on an officer, leaving the scene of property damage, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.
