Danvers Updated Winter Parking Ban: No All-Night Parking
ICYMI: Winter parking ban violators may be fined, and their vehicles may be towed.

DANVERS, MA - The Danvers Board of Selectmen recently voted to permanently change the Winter Parking Ban by-law to the following:
Article 5, Section 8. No All-Night Parking:
“When an overnight parking ban is called by the Director of Public Works in anticipation of a winter storm, it shall be unlawful for the driver of any vehicle, other than one acting in an emergency, to park said vehicle on any street between the hours of 1:00 AM and 6:00 AM.

In extreme circumstances, when a major winter storm with significant amounts of precipitation is forecasted to impact the municipality, the Director of Public Works, after consulting with the Chief of Police and Town Manager, may call for a full parking ban, during which time it shall be unlawful for the driver of any vehicle, other than one acting in an emergency, to park said vehicle on any street until such time as the full parking ban is lifted.”
Depending on the scope and duration of the storm, this ban may be applied (or not applied) to specific streets or geographic areas, for example, Danvers Square, according to town officials.

The fine for violating the parking ban is $25 and the vehicle may be towed.
The Danvers Winter Parking Ban prohibits parking on public ways only if the parking ban is implemented. During “normal” operations, a town-wide call will be made on our community notification system on the evening prior to an overnight parking being implemented. For “major” winter storms, a town-wide call will be made no later than six hours ahead of the effective time, when possible. Vehicles that remain on the road during the parking ban hours may be ticketed and/or towed. A second call will be made when the parking ban is lifted.
A parking ban may last for one day or longer.
Notice of a Winter Parking Ban can be sent by phone to land lines or mobile phones, by email or by text. Land lines of all residents and businesses are automatically included in our community notification system. Any resident who wishes to receive a call at an additional phone number, a text or an email can add a mobile phone number or an email address by doing the following:
- Access the Town’s website at www.danvers.govoffice.com;
- Click on the “Blackboard Connect” icon on the right hand section of our website;
- Follow the instructions on the “MyConnect Portal”.
Message boards displaying the parking ban will be placed at the intersections of Poplar and Conant Streets and Maple and Forest Streets.
