EPA To Begin Work On Former Danvers Tannery
The EPA is working to excavated contaminated soil at the former Ash Street Tannery.

DANVERS, MA – A contractor with the Environmental Protection Agency is expected to begin work on tree removal and excavation as soon as Tuesday to remove contamination at the former Ash Street Tannery. According to the site summary from the EPA, residents will likely see heavy equipment in the area.
The summary says the contractor will excavate up to three feet of soil in some areas, and replacing the soil with uncontaminated soil. The soil will be moved to a staging area in the back of Plains Park, and the soil will be sampled to shipped to be disposed.
The EPA will monitor the air during work to make sure no contaminates leave the property, according to the summary.
