Letter to the Editor: Meet School Committee Candidate David Thomson
A letter from School Committee candidate David Thomson.

Dear Editor -
I'm writing to let your readers know that I'm running for School Committee and ask that they vote for me in the election on May 1st.
I was born and raised in Danvers and went through the public school system. My wife, Sue, and I now have three children of our own who are all attending Danvers Public Schools. Our oldest daughter, Riley, will be going to Danvers High School in the fall, our daughter, Brynn, will be in middle school and our youngest daughter, Colby, will be in her last year of elementary school. With three children at three different levels in the school system I have a vested interest in making the public schools in our town the best they can be. Therefore, I decided now is the time to run for School Committee.

I’ve been happy with the experiences my family has had at Smith and Holten-Richmond and we look forward to high school. I think the current school committee and administration did an excellent job planning and building the middle school and from what I can tell, the high school is going to be equally as good. I want my children – and all of the children in Danvers – to get solid educations. Having the facilities which make it a good place to learn is a start, but it is the teachers and staff that truly make an impact on a child. My goal, if elected, is to support the teachers and make sure they have the resources they need to meet the demands of educating students today.
I have the leadership qualities needed to be successful in this role. I have run my own marketing and public relations agency for the last eleven years where my staff and I have developed and managed award winning campaigns for a variety of clients. I'm on the board of the Danvers Y and Danvers Youth Soccer Association where I have also coached teams for the last nine years. I'm an active volunteer for the Alzheimer's Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter, where I sit on their leadership council, communications task force, and run one of their largest annual fundraisers. I also sit on the board of Massachusetts' Employers Against Domestic Violence. I truly feel that giving back to the community and to organizations that are making a difference is important and hope to continue my efforts as part of the Danvers School Committee.
