Scam Alert: Man Claiming to be Danvers Officer Demanded Bail Money
A man posing as a police officer told a Lynnfield woman to mail $9,000 to New Jersey as bail money.

DANVERS, MA – A Lynnfield resident was scammed into sending $9,000 to an address in New Jersey after a man claiming to be a Danvers police officer demanded money.
"Officer Cooper," as the man identified himself, told the woman that her grandson had been arrested on drug charges, and needed $9,000 for bail money. She realized it was a scam when the man called her back for more money, according to a statement on the Danvers Police Facebook page.
Danvers Police advises residents that if a friend or relative is at the police station, that person will contact you directly. The department said officers would never initiate contact, and all bail must be paid in cash at the police department.
