4 Framingham Residents Attending Framingham State Awarded Scholarships

This year's awards from the Independent Association of Framingham State Alumni total $75,725.

The Independent Association of Framingham State Alumni has announce its 2015-2016 scholarship winners.

Independent Association of Framingham State Alumni, a non-profit charitable organization established in 1874, offers approximately 30 scholarships and awards to Framingham State students.

This year’s awards range from $250 to $3,500 and total $75,725.

For the second year in a row, Framingham resident Rebecca Wilson (pictured), an elementary education major, received the Murtaugh Scholarship.

The Murtaugh is available to graduates of a Framingham High who have at least a 3.0 GPA and was established in 2012 by a longtime Framingham teacher. Preference is given to the offspring of police, fire, or military personnel.

Framingham residents Sally Birch, and Lindsey Kuza both communications majors, received Betty Whitney Scholarships, Birch for the third time. Students must have a GPA of at least 2.75 and be a sophomore or above in order to qualify for the Whitney.

Jamie Dannenberg, a graduate nutrition major, received an Alumni General Graduate Scholarship. Graduate students must have four credits and at least two courses remaining to complete their degree for this award. All recipients must submit an application, a personal letter about their studies and goals, and a letter of recommendation from a member of the faculty.

Recipients were selected on the basis of college course credits, GPA, merit, financial need, and special criteria established by scholarship donors. A new scholarship for commuters was funded this year by the Framingham State Class of 1964. More memorial and philanthropic scholarships are welcome and needed to help students meet rising fees and expenses.

Karen Bermudes of Marlboro, Drew Cline of Natick, Jean Cole of Sudbury, Alison Dee of Westford, Marissa Gross of Hopkinton, Nuzaiba Haider of Milford, Alyssa Lee of Northborough, Kanza Mansoor of Westborough, Elizabeth McAvoy of Millis, Julie Sharp of Acton, Tanya Tovar of Westborough, Erin Tracy of Bellingham, and Shaina Wales of Northborough.

Independent Association of Framingham State Alumni continues its tradition of service to Framingham State University students by receiving and administering funds that provide scholarships and benevolent assistance while maintaining the Alumni House for member and community functions.
