5 Things You Need To Know Today in Framingham: June 9

Framingham High boys volleyball team competes in MIAA Division 1 Central semifinals and free screening of the movie Still Alice featured.

1. The Framingham High boys volleyball team will compete in the Division 1 Central semifinals of the MIAA tournament today. They will travel to Millis to take on Millis High at 5 p.m. Go Flyers!

The Flyers earned a spot in the semifinals by defeating the #1-seeded team in the tournament last week.

2. The main Framingham Library will hold a free screening of the movie Still Alice at 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Actress Julianne Moore won an Oscar for her role as Alice Howland in the PG-13 film.

Synopsis: Alice Howland is a happily married woman with three grown children. As a renowned linguistics professor, she becomes concerned when she starts to forget words. When she receives a diagnosis of Early-Onset Alzheimer’s Disease, her family bonds are sorely tested.


3. Framingham School Committee will hold a closed door meeting, not open to the public tonight. On the agenda is to discuss contract negotiations, a legal case brought against the Framingham Schools, and contract negotations with the Superintendent, assistant superintendent and chief operating officer. 4. In case you missed it: On Friday afternoon Wilson Elementary School John Haidemenos Jr. and Vice Principal Michelle da Costa each were slapped with three chocolate creme pies by their students.

The pie throwing at the school’s principals was a reward for the students after they raised $4,700 for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Click here to view more than 40 photos from the event.

5. Over the weekend, Access Framingham celebrated the grand opening of its new studios on Vernon Street. The main AF-TV studio was dedicated in memory of the late Ruth and Jay Gordon. Their son Jim Gordon is the owner and landlord of the building where the studios are located.
