Deputy Chief Appointed Acting Police Chief In Framingham

Trask will take over upon Chief Kenneth Ferguson's retirement this month.

FRAMINGHAM, MA—Deputy Police Chief Steven Trask will serve as acting police chief with Chief Kenneth Ferguson retiring on April 27 of this year, according to Mayor Yvonne M. Spicer.

Deputy Chief Trask was appointed to the Framingham Police Department in January of 1987 and has served the community for over three decades.

According to the announcement, Trask has held many positions in the department including patrol officer, student resource officer, D.A.R.E. officer, patrol supervisor, police prosecutor and shift commander. He has been the executive officer for the Framingham Police Department since 2013 and the Emergency Management Director for the City of Framingham since 2006.

After graduating Marian High School, Trask got his bachelor’s of science degree criminal justice from Westfield State University, and a master’s degree in public administration from Framingham State University. Trask is also a graduate of the Senior Management Institute for Police and the Kennedy School of Government Executive Leadership Program.

“I am confident that Deputy Chief Trask has the education and experience to lead the Framingham Police Department as Acting Police Chief," said Spicer in a statement. "His leadership and focus on the department has been impressive.”

“Chief Trask has been a Deputy Chief and the Emergency Management Director for the city for 12 years and the Executive Officer of the department for 4.5 years of those 12 years," said Ferguson in a statement. "I am confident that he has the knowledge and ability to effectively lead the Framingham Police Department."

Trask replied in a statement, “I am honored to be appointed acting chief, I look forward to carrying on the proud tradition of the Framingham Police Department and thank Mayor Spicer for this opportunity."
