Updated: Dozen Framingham High Students Commended in National Merit Program
About 1.5 million juniors entered the Program by taking the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Test.

Framingham High Principal Elyse Torbert announced a dozen students received commendation in the 2016 National Merit Program.
The students are:
- Evan D. Chansky
- Daniel D. Donato
- Noah H. Gelman
- Hannah W. Greenberg
- Paul D. Halberstadt
- Nicole K. Nieves
- Casey D. Phalen
- Ben N. Schwartzberg
- Jillian M. Shapiro
- Tara Tian
- Shristi Varshney
- Christopher R. Winters
About 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2016 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2014 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, which served as an initial screen of program entrants.

There are more than 30,000 Commended Students nationwide. Each of these high scorers received a Letter of Commendation in recognition of their outstanding academic promise, but they do not continue in the competition
for National Merit Scholarships.
Some of the Commended students however are still eligible for Special Scholarships provided by corporate and
business sponsors.

There were about 15,000 National Merit semi finalists, including two from Framingham High.
About a third of the 50,000 high scorers across America were notified they have qualified as Semifinalists.
Semifinalists are the highest-scoring entrants in each state. They are eligible to advance in the competition for National Merit Scholarships to be offered in 2016.
