EDITOR'S PICKS: 5 Things To Do Today June 13 in Framingham
Reception for Traditions in Translation exhibit, free museum admission from 10 a.m. to noon, and the Giant Carnival is in town.

Below are my picks for things to do today:
- Fried Dough & Rides: The Carnival is in town this weekend. The first-ever Framingham High Giant Carnival opened last night at St. Thomas Church, located at 41 Brook Street. The carnival will features rides, food and games by Fiesta Shows. It is open today from 1 to 10 p.m. and tomorrow from 1 to 9 p.m.
- Artists Reception: Fountain Street Fine Art gallery will hold an artists reception tonight from 5 to 7 p.m. for its newest exhibit Traditions in Translation. Artists Jaeok Lee and Joel Moskowitz “draw from their cultural and spiritual legacies, adapting the symbols, rituals and social dynamics of distant homelands. Each artist has created a personal visual language based on a place which is remote geographically but inescapable emotionally,” states the gallery. The gallery is open today from noon to 7 p.m. Pictured: Joel Moskowitz’s “Tet / Taa” an acrylic and collage on paper. $850
- Preschool Reading Workshop: The main Framingham Library presents Help Me Get Ready to Read Workshop
from 11 a.m. to noon in the Costin room for parents, caretakers and teachers of preschool children. Join professionals Susan Marx and Barbara Kasok as they share tips and techniques to add to your read-aloud times with children that will help them get ready to read! - Final Days At Play: Visit Danforth Art today or tomorrow to see the final days of the exhibit Jennifer Goldfinger: At Play. ”Goldfinger is known for her playful and expressive mixed media encaustic works as well as children’s book illustrations that depict everyday experiences with a fresh and inquisitive eye. For the first time, these works will be brought together in the same space, merging two aspects of Goldfinger’s artistry and drawing connections between her processes. In Goldfinger’s mixed media work she juxtaposes contemporary elements of childhood with figures from the past, playing with memory through the use of found images,” states the Museum. The Danforth is open today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Framingham residents get free admission to the museum on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon.
- Go For a Swim: The MetroWest YMCA’s Clearbrook Pool is having an open house today from noon to 5 p.m. And the Belknap Pool & Tennis Club is also having its open house this weekend.

Farewell Tour: Singer Tom Paxton recently announced this would be his last tour and his tour stops in Framingham tonight. He will perform before a sold-out crowd at Amazing Things Ats Center in downtown Framingham at 8.
