One contractor remains hospitalized with second and third degree burns on 36 percent of his body, following a β€œflash explosion” in the basement.

A second contractor was treated for second degree burns at MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham and released on Saturday.

Both men injured were not town employees but contractors from Ameresco, who is doing work at the library to make it more energy efficient, said Framingham Town Manager Bob Halpin.

The two men were working with the β€œelectrical switch gear” at the library when it ”exploded and flashed,” said Deputy Chief Kevin Burns.

Framingham Fire is still investigating the cause of the fire.
