Framingham School Enrollment Continues to Increase

Last year on October 1, there were 8,153 Framingham Public School students, according to DESE. This year, FPS says it has 8,735 students.

Framingham Public Schools student enrollment continues to jump by the hundreds.

Last year on October 1, there were 8,153 Framingham Public School students, reported to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

This year, the public school district is reporting there are 8,735 students (8,508 students not counting special education students attending programs out of district), as of October 1.

The state requires all schools, public and charter, to submit enrollment data on October 1.

The Class of 2015 that graduated this spring was 476 students. The new freshman class is at 554 students. The class of 2016 is at 479 students.

Framingham High is currently just over 2,000 students at 2,084 students, as of October 1.

Just after school started (September 1), the public school district was at 8,692 students, said Chief Operating Officer Ed Gotgart. In one month, the district added a total of 73 students.

Barbieri is now the largest elementary school in the district with 690 students, according to the October 1 report.

McCarthy Elementary is second with 585 students and Wilson Elementary third with 567 students. Hemenway Elementary is close behind with 562 students.

Brophy Elementary has 508 student, Potter Road Elementary is listed at 501 students. Dunning Elementary is listed 489 students and Stapleton Elementary with 482 students.

King Elementary, the district’s newest school, has 153 students - specifically 81 kindergarten and 72 first grade.

Walsh continues to be the district’s largest middle school with 698 students. Cameron Middle has 526 students and Fuller Middle has 450 students.

The district Pre-K program, BLOCKS, has 263 students.

There are 746 kindergarten students this year. The largest at Barbieri Elementary, 119 students.

However, that is down from last year, as there are 762 first grade students in the district and 775 second grade students.

The lowest number of elementary school students is at the fifth grade level with 700 students.

However, elementary enrollment is up in the last decade. In the 2005-06 school year, there were 3,981 students at the elementary level. This year, there are 4,750 students.

More than 200 students are taught outside the school district in special program - 227 to be exact, as of October 1.
