The second meeting of the Skate Park Advisory Committee is scheduled to take place Thursday, July 30 at 7 p.m. at Farm Pond.

The Committee, who elected Selectman Jason Smith as its chair and former Finance Committee member Betty Fund as its vice chair, is scheduled to meet just south of the parking lot next to the bocce courts.

The first meeting of the Committee was held last Thursday, Jly 23, at the Framingham Parks & Recreation office.

There was a large group of skateboarders and BMX bikers at the meeting.

Smith told that group that their input was essential in creating the best skate park for Framingham.

Town Meeting voted 124-4 to spend $50,000 to design a concrete skate park in the Town of Framingham.

Framingham Town Meeting Precinct 15 chair Judith Grove, who sponsored the Skate park warrant arricle before Town Meeting is a member of the Committee.

At the Committee’s first meeting, Grove spoke for the need to immediately address the issue of the location for the skate park.

Funk suggested three meetings be scheduled for the next three Thursday nights at three proposed skate park locations.

The UPDATED meeting schedule:

  • Thursday, Aug. 6 at Farm Pond
  • Thursday Aug. 13 at Mary Dennison Park
  • Thursday, Aug. 20 at Butterworth Park.

Other possible location for the Skate Park, made by Committee members, were the abandoned tennis courts on the border of Barbieri Elementary and Cushing Memorial Park, Winch Street ball field, and near Bowditch Field.

The public is welcome to attend any of the Committee meetings.

The Skate Park Committee, created by Framingham Town Meeting this spring, is to decide a design of the skate park and where it should be located in the community.

When evaluating potential skate park sites the committee will look at accessibility, visibility, and infrastructure issues.

Estimated costs to build the concrete skate park is $350,000 and plans are to be submitted back to Town Meeting no later than 2016.
