Vikings Sail Goal Past Rams for Victory

Framingham State men's soccer teams lost to Salem State 4-3 on the road Saturday.

Salem, Mass. – The Framingham State University men’s soccer team surrendered three first half goals as they were defeated 4-3 by Salem State University this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Alumni Field.

With the win, the Vikings are now 1-12 on the season and 1-4 in the conference, while the Rams slip to 5-9 overall and are now 3-2 in the Conference.

Kevin Gallo netted a pair of goals for the Vikings in the contest as the hosts saw a 13 game losing streak dating back to last season snapped.

Tim Kilpatrick gave the Vikings the early lead when he converted a free kick from just outside the box in the 12th minute. Eight minutes later, Eseosa Okunmwendia increased the lead to 2-0. Gallo tallied his first of the game in the 30th minute giving the Vikings a 3-0 lead at the break.

Senior Cory Cardeiro got the rams on the board in the 53rd minute when he buried a shot from the top of the box. Two minutes later Simon Appiah cut the deficit to one with a shot from the right side.

Gallo tallied what proved to be the game winner in the 61st minute and Cardeiro added his second of the game in the 73rd to reach the final margin.

The Rams outshot the Vikings 17-9 in the game and held an 8-2 edge in corner kicks. Greg Enos made eight saves for the Vikings en route to his first victory of the season in net, while Josh Arno, a Natick High product, was tagged with the loss making three stops.

The Rams are back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they host Connecticut College at 4 p.m.
