You Are Special: John Woodrum

"John Woodrum is an essential component of the Hemenway School community."

The annual Salute program recognizes Framingham teachers and staff who go the extra mile to make each day “special” in our public schools. These teachers and staff are given a “You Are Special” designation and are publicly recognized as part of the Salute to Framingham.

Editor’s note: Framingham Patch is publishing all 23 honorees profiles between now and the end of the school year, so the community can recognize the employee. Below is the profile of Woodrum as it was read to the sold-out crowd of more than 500 people on Thursday, March 26.

John Woodrum is an essential component of the Hemenway School community.

One of his hall mark traits is that he always finds a way to say “yes!”

John demonstrates professionalism in every aspect of his job. Whether a teacher needs something moved, a student has had an accident, the parents need something done for the PTO, Lucia or Liz need the cafeteria set up on short notice, John smiles and says, “no problem…I’ll be right there!” Every time the nurse calls over the walkie-talkie, “John,” we all shudder as we contemplate what he is about to encounter and take care of with that ever present enduring smile.

John joined the Framingham Public Schools Buildings and Grounds department 29 years ago in 1986.

He spent his first 17 years at the Juniper Hill School and in 2003 he became the head custodian at Hemenway School.

John grew up in Framingham and attended the Woodrow Wilson School and graduated from Keefe Technical School in 1978. Currently John and Elizabeth, his wife of 24 years, live in Marlborough. John enjoys bowling and golf in his spare time.

John’s flexibility, hard work and dedication to our Hemenway community is appreciated by all who know and work with him.

We are so lucky to have John as our senior custodian! John Woodrum – You Are Special!
