Accused Drunk Driver Slams Into 2 Hopkinton Homes

HOPKINTON, MA — A Hopkinton man was arrested and charged Thursday afternoon after being accused of driving drunk into two homes with his van, police said in a news release.
Stephen Murphy, 52, is accused of striking two homes on Grove Street around 2:51 p.m. before fleeing the scene, after which police stopped him and took him into custody.
Murphy has been charged with Operating Under the Influence of Liquor, Driving to Endanger, and two counts of Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Crash, police said.

One of the homes that was struck suffered significant damage to a wall and fire officials have been sent to "work to secure and stabilize the home's first and second floors," police said.
Firefighters are also working to prepare the home for snowfall this weekend.

There were no reported injuries, but a family who lives in one of the homes was displaced and will be staying with other family members, police said.
Murphy will be arraigned Friday in Framingham District Court.
