Holliston Woman Steps Down as Greater Boston Tea Party President

Christen Varley is set to step down as Tea Pary President to Christine Morabito at the beginning of 2012.

Holliston's Christen Varley is set to end her two-year term as President of the Greater Boston Tea Party at the beginning of 2012.

The organization has elected Christine Morabito, a Haverhill nurse and Tea Party supporter since the movement's inception, to lead the group.

"Christine has been a dedicated activist within the movement and has exhibited outstanding leadership qualities in her writing, her public speaking and her service to the Greater Boston Tea Party,” Christen Varley said in a statement.

Varley will serve as secretary for the upcoming term. 

The Boston Globe identifies these elections as "further maturation and formalization for a loosely affiliated movement that sprang up nationally as President Obama pushed his health care bill in 2009."

But Tea Party organizations across the country have suffered a small blow recently as their house caucus was forced to pass a federal payroll tax cut after public pressure boiled, the Globe reports.

The group's website promises rallies and fund-raising efforts leading up to the November presidential elections.
