It Was The Hopkinton PO Building Ticking, Not A Bomb: MSP

On election night, a woman reported a strange ticking sound coming from a drop box at the Hopkinton Post Office.

HOPKINTON, MA—The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad was called in to Hopkinton on election night to investigate reports of a possible suspicious "ticking" package.

Around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6, a woman came into the Hopkinton police station to report that she was hearing a ticking sound coming from an outgoing mail drop box at the post office on Cedar Street.

Officers responded and as a precaution evacuated nearby businesses, and Cedar Street was closed to traffic. At the time, the post office wasn't open.

After a check by the bomb squad, it was determined there were no explosive devices in said box, and the ticking sound was "attributed to the building itself." The Hopkinton Fire Department and Hopkinton's postmaster also responded to the scene, and there was no threat to the public.
