Buckle Up for the Worst Potholes in Malden

We asked Patch Readers which streets have the worst potholes. Readers - and the director of Malden Public Works - chimed in.

Nothing puts a dent in a morning commute like bad traffic and a street littered with potholes.

Blizzard 2016 left monumental snowfalls up and down the east coast, and Malden was not immune to its wrath.

Large snowfalls compiled with El Niño induced warmer temperatures have caused more potholes and road problems than most motorists can stomach.

Patch Readers gave us a rundown of particularly pocked streets in their neighborhoods. Here are some spots that might be worth detouring:

  • “Main Street Park. Huge pothole, almost lost a tire yesterday going to Dr. Medwar’s office. Please fill it soon.”
  • “Main Street in front of Hair School”
  • “Medford street from fells way to Main Street.”
  • “Side streets in Maplewood area. They are terrible.”
  • “Bainbridge Street.”
  • “Olive Avenue”
  • “All the side streets near Mills St.”
  • “Converse street is horrible. Stevens Street if terrible. Walnut Street after Ferryway School is horrific. Main Street after the left turn at the High School is the worst. Shall I go on?”
  • “Wyoming Avenue”

Drivers were not the only ones with a comment on road conditions. Robert Knox Jr., Director of Public Works, also answered our callout on Facebook:

“Stevens Street is a water street that has all new mains installed and will be paved. Walnut Street not sure which direction but if you’re talking around Ashland and Judson those are also water streets and Ashland will be paved this year. Main Street is getting paved from Salem to Florence by National Grid. I will check out Converse this week. Feel free to contact me directly anytime. Thanks.”
