Malden Coronavirus: Number Of Cases Above 700
The Board of Health enacted new requirements on essential businesses, including requiring employees and customers to wear face coverings.
MALDEN, MA — The number of confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Malden surpassed 700 this week, as the city learned of new deaths attributed to the virus. There were 707 positive cases of the virus as of Monday, April 27, according to the latest numbers from the city.
Nineteen deaths across Malden have been attributed to the coronavirus, Ward 8 Councilor Jadeane Sica said Thursday.
"It appears that hopefully we are reaching our peak," Sica wrote on Facebook.

Last week, the Board of Health enacted new requirements on essential businesses, including requiring employees and customers to wear face coverings. The emergency actions will remain in effect until it is determined that a Public Health Emergency no longer exists.
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported 169 new deaths Sunday, bringing the state's death toll to 2,899. The state also confirmed an additional 1,590 cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of positive cases to 54,938.

Sunday's report also showed that the hospitalization rate held at seven percent after dropping from eight two days earlier. Gov. Charlie Baker said in his daily news briefing Saturday the hospitalization rate has stabilized over the past few days.
