MALDEN, MA — The Malden Democratic City Committee voted Aug. 15 to endorse Sen. Ed Markey for re-election. Markey joined Malden Democrats live from his campaign bus, answering questions from constituents and talking about his legislative priorities.

Though the MDCC usually refrains from endorsing in a Democratic primary, Markey received overwhelming support on Saturday.

"In a near-unanimous vote, the Malden Democratic City Committee endorsed Malden’s own Ed Markey for re-election to the U.S. Senate," MDCC Chair Ryan O'Malley said. "We look forward to working with Senator Markey to implement the Green New Deal when it’s signed into law, and to address the many other challenges facing working families."

O'Malley also encouraged everyone to vote in the Sept. 1 primary. The seat is expected to remain blue, and the primary will therefore likely determine which Democrat will be representing Massachusetts in the Senate.

The MDCC meeting was followed by a forum, sponsored by the group, for candidates for
the 35th Middlesex District Massachusetts House seat, which represents parts of Medford and Malden. Incumbent Representative Paul J. Donato and challenger Nichole Mossalam made brief remarks and answered questions submitted by MDCC members.
