5 Things: Firefighter Promotions; T Protest; City Council Meets Tonight

Good morning, here are five things to know today:
1. Three Medford Firefighters Promoted: Mayor Michael McGlynn announced the promotion of three members of the Medford Fire Department yesterday. Sean Bradanese was promoted to Captain, and Daniel Shea and Robert Turner were both promoted to Lieutenant.
2. Showers Likely This Morning, Clear Afternoon: There's a 60 percent chance of rain this morning that is expected to give way to a clear afternoon, according to the National Weather Service. Highs are expected to be around 50 degrees.

3. T Riders Take to State House in Protest: Upset over two options presented by the MBTA to address an expected $185 million shortfall, T riders took to the state house in Boston yesterday. Several local legislators have also voiced their displeasure over the proposals and have hinted that an alternative will likely be presented based around an increase to the gas tax.
4. City Council Tonight, Tomorrow: In a committee of the whole meeting tonight at 6 p.m., the council will consider a bond for sewer repairs, and in a meeting tomorrow at 5:30 p.m., they will review proposals for a parking garage on Governors Avenue, a parking management plan and plans for the high school pool.

A Ukrainian junior hockey coach who brought his team to Medford last month for an exhibition is charged with fondling a 14-year-old boy in Philadelphia, according to an Associated Press report. Ivan Pravilov was arrested last week after a 14-year-old player attending one of his clinics told authorities the coach fondled him at an apartment in Philadelphia, the report said. Pravilov allegedly slapped and threatened one of the victim's teammates who publicized the incident, the report said. Druzhba78, Pravilov's Ukrainian under-16 youth team, . The game was part of a series of exhibitions Druzbha78 played in New England last month.
