Good morning, here are five things to know today:

: Progess has been made and a deal is expected to be reached to end controversy over Medford Public Schools eliminating funding for a school bus to transport students to Minuteman Regional Vocational School. Superintendent Roy Belson didn't go into specifics when asked about the situation by City Councilors Tuesday because, he said, he didn't intend to announce anything official for another few days. But he said he expected an agreement to be reached that will resolve the issue and save Medford schools in the neighborhood of $80,000 per year.

Weather: There's a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms today with highs expected near 90 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Showers are likely tomorrow.

Council Approves 'Spirit' of 8-Figure High School Science Labs Upgrade: The city council gave a partial endorsement Tuesday of renovations to Medford High School science labs that will cost at total $10 million to $13 million. Project managers showed three options to the council for the overhaul, which will receive 60 percent funding from the state through a grant. But instead of choosing a preferred option, the council decided to unanimously vote in favor of “the spirit of the project” during a committee of the whole meeting Tuesday night at City Hall.

 Police discovered a Medford man had two outstanding warrants after they approached him for allegedly evading his fare at the Malden Center T station Monday night. Kynly Cazeau, 25, was sought on warrants stemming from both breaking and entering and class B drug distribution charges, and was arrested and brought to Roxbury District Court by MBTA police, according to a transit police report.

2012 Perseid Meteor Shower Aug. 11, 12 with Cresent Moon: According to Astronomy.com, the Perseid Meteor shower has some added bonuses this year: It will occur on a night when the moon is in its waning crescent phase, which means the moonlight won't interfere with your view of the dashing meteors, and it's on a Saturday night, which means people can stay up late and sleep in the next day. Although it isn't looking good for Medford residents right now: Forecasters are predicting cloudy skies Aug. 12 in the Medford area.
