Medford Man Wanted on Attempted Murder Charge in Malden: A Medford man is wanted in connection to a shooting in Malden on Saturday, according to Malden Police. Daniel Rossetti, 20, of Medford, is now officially sought on a single charge of attempted murder, Malden Police Lt. Det. Marc Gatcomb said Sunday. “This warrant is the result of an ongoing investigation,” he said. Rossetti allegedly shot another man about 3:45 p.m. Saturday in the area of Ryan Family Amusements on Middlesex Street during a dispute involving a woman, according to a press release from Malden Mayor Gary Christensen.

Three firefighters and a fire alarm operator have been punished after the Medford Fire Department failed to respond to a 911 call on July 13 that involved a fatality, according to a press release from the city. The fire alarm operator involved contacted three on-duty firefighters through their personal radios, but not with another communications system he was supposed to use, according to the press release, sent out by City Solicitor Mark Rumley. The three firefighters had their personal radio volume too low to hear the dispatch, according to the release.
U.S. Senator Scott Brown called from Missouri Republican Todd Akin to resign the Republican nomination for a seat in the senate, and Brown's challenger Elizabeth Warren said she was "disgusted" by remarks made by Akin Sunday. When asked his opinion on abortions in the case of rape during a TV interview Sunday, Akin implied women who are raped could shut down their reproductive organs

Nearly 200K Herring Make First Migratory Run Up Mystic Since Civil War: "For the first time since the Civil War, river herring (both Alewife and Blueback herring) made their way to the Upper Mystic Lake on their own." That's according to an announcement from the Mystic River Watershed Association. According to the association, an estimated 198,932 herring made it up the Mystic River on their own to Upper Mystic Lake in Medford, Arlington and Winchester, which is their most desirable spawning habitat.
