Medford High Grad Set for Long Jump Competition in London Today: You won't find her on any lists of U.S. Olympians, but a Medford High grad with strong roots in the city is participating in this year's summer games. Arantxa King, representing Bermuda in the Olympics for the second time, is set to compete in the long jump this afternoon. King was born in Bermuda, but grew up in Medford. Her mother, Branwen, a Bermuda native, is the assistant athletic director at Tufts University and former track and field competitior. Her father, Adrian, is a former world-class circket player and now a Kindergarten teacher at Brooks Elementary School. She went to Medford High School where she stood out in track and soccer, and she has spent the last four years on scholarship at Stanford University.

Agreement: Union Square Green Line Station Operational by 2017: The city of Somerville, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and the MBTA have entered into a memorandum of agreement regarding the future Union Square Green Line station, according to an announcement sent by the city Friday afternoon. According to the announcement, the city will purchase land in Union Square for the station and then grant a permanent easement to the MBTA. As part of the agreement, the MBTA and MassDOT commit to beginning construction on the station no later than spring of 2014 and making it operational by late 2016 or early 2017.

Medford-Based Sikh Community 'Shocked' By Wisconsin Shooting: Members of the Greater Boston Sikh community who worship in Medford are distressed by the that left seven people, including the gunman, dead. Gurinber Singh, president of Gurudwara Guru Nanak Darbar, a temple at 226 Mystic Avenue in Medford, and a volunteer in the community, said, "We are really shocked at this moment." "We couldn't believe it," he said.
