Facing a court order to mitigate vehicle emissions by 2014, the MBTA is offering interim solutions as it works toward its long-term goal of extending the Green Line through Somerville into Medford. The transit department released a lengthy list possible solutions interim solutions Monday. They ranged from more frequent bus services to creating bike lanes on Route 28 to free or cheap Charlie Cards for riders living within the mitigation area.

A Swampscott man accused of beating, threatening and attempting to extort workers at a Medford construction company's office last Tuesday had his bail reduced Monday. James Morando, 52 was arrested Thursday on 14 charges stemming from the incident and arraigned in Somerville District Court Friday, where he was ordered held without bail until a second hearing Monday morning. Somerville District Court Judge Maurice Flynn set bail for Morando at $15,000 cash, $150,000 surety, with conditions that he stay away from the alleged victims and wear a GPS tracker, according to court records.

On the Agenda: One City Councilor wants the city to look into expanding its community garden program. Councilor Michael Marks has submitted a resolution calling for the city's park board to look into potential new sites for community gardens in Medford. The city currently has a garden behind McGlynn Middle School, but it has a 2-year waitlist, according to Marks. The resolution will be considered during the council's 7 p.m. meeting Tuesday.
